If you’re like me, you’re a life long learner. And you may or may not have an overwhelming list of books you want to read in your Amazon Wish List. I love learning through reading, and even though you can watch YouTube and read blogs, and that’s definitely something I do, I always really enjoy reading a physical, hard copy book. There’s something about being able to hold it in my hand and flip through the pages that makes it a bit more exciting. So, I thought I would share some of my favorite Business and Personal Development Books that I’ve read lately, and what I’m currently reading right now. A lot of these books I read when I first started my company and was first deciding that I wanted to leave corporate and go full-time with my business. A lot of these really made an impact on my personal development journey.
Year of Yes by Shonda Rhimes
I read this book years ago when I first started working at an ad agency and was living alone. I wasn’t super fulfilled and was really stressed financially. This book was really one of the first personal development books that I read and really inspired me to embrace the things I was scared of, get out of my comfort zone and do the scary things in my life that would make an impact. Check it out on Amazon.
Being Boss by Emily Thompson and Kathleen Shannon
This book is a great “handbook” or field guide for a creative entrepreneur. I have listened to the Being Boss Podcast since it started and I was so excited when Emily and Kathleen decided to release a book. This book is not only beautiful, but it’s packed full of tangible advice and has amazing worksheets included to help you structure your business and structure your life around your business. Check it out on Amazon.
Quitter by Jon Acuff
Quitter was a book that provided the tough love I needed. He not only has a funny, conversational writing style, but he also talks about all the factors to take into consideration before leaving your job to take your dream full-time. He talks about how to fall in like with your day job and how to ultimately know when you’re ready to take the leap. It’s such a great book and was exactly what I needed when I was wanting to go full-time with my business, but I KNEW it was too soon. This was exactly what I needed to hear. Check it out on Amazon.
WorkParty by Jaclyn Johnson
I absolutely loved this book! It talks about how to create and cultivate the career of your dreams whether you work for yourself or someone else, and it’s business and career advice almost from the perspective of a super cool big sister who’s been there before and sharing her experience. This books covers having hard conversations, starting a business, finances, how to ask for a raise and so much more! SUCH a good read. Check it out on Amazon.
Girl, Wash Your Face and Girl, Stop Apologizing by Rachel Hollis
Some people love her, some people hate her and that’s totally fine! To each their own. I got a lot of value out of Rachel Hollis’ books and have used a lot of her advice in my own business, plus I really enjoy consuming her podcast and the other content that she creates.
