If the TikTok ban has caused you to go into a full blown panic. I see you. I also love you so much to tell you that you are building your business on borrowed land if your business is solely dependent on one social media platform.
The thing is we don’t want to be at the mercy of another platform when it comes to our business. Whether you use Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, TikTok or Google to build your business, the goal is to be platform agnostic and to really leverage all of them to point people BACK to your homebase, which is your website.
If the TikTok ban has you stressing and is causing you to see gaps in the way you are marketing your business, I have good news for you.
There is a way you can still leverage social media AND have a way to market to your clients through ALL the platforms effectively without relying on just one option.
Here’s your road map to take control over your marketing and sales strategy:
When you do this you can feel confident that no matter what is going on with the various platforms of the world, you can still reach your audience AND have a way to market your business.
Step 1: Start building an email list.
If I could go back in time, I would build an email list sooner and I would be as consistent as possible with it. Our favorite platform is Flodesk. Why? Because no matter how large your list grows, you pay a flat fee and have access to beautiful templates. Save 50% off your first year with our referral link.
Create a lead magnet or freebie (or a coupon code if you’re a product based business), and incentivize people to get on your email list. Once they subscribe, nurture them through a 3-5 email welcome sequence and continue to serve them well through your newsletter.
Step 2: Build a website.
Think of social media like the store windows in the mall, and your website is the store itself. The windows catch your attention and invite them inside, but the way you design your store and the experience you create for your customers is what makes them stick around and maybe even buy from you. And the best part about your own website? You have FULL control over what that experience looks and feels like for your customers. Isn’t that so freeing? If you’re looking to build your brand in 2025, a website is a non-negotiable for presenting your business as a professional.
Step 3: Optimize for SEO.
What does SEO stand for? Search Engine Optimization. This means you are including keywords throughout your website that your potential clients and customers might be using when looking for your services so that you can pop up in their search results. The good news is that this is a long game. You can continuously improve your SEO strategy. The bad news is that this is the long game and you could see results 6-9 months from now. It is worth it to emphasize this, but adjust your expectations so you don’t expect overnight success here. Want to learn more about SEO for beginners? Click here to check out this blog.
Step 4: Collect Data.
Install the Google tracking tag and Meta tracking pixel on your website. Why? Because you can track the people who visit your website and serve them targeted ads by doing this.Of course you have to set up the ads, but having that tracking set up and knowing it’s collecting data allows you to target anyone who has visited your website within a specific timeframe. Pretty cool right? Knowing that your ads will be served to anyone who goes to your website can give you so much confidence that you are continuing to nurture your audience even after they’ve left your site and gone along your day. When you set up your marketing systems, your website can play a crucial role in how you are continuing to market to your potential clients. You can learn more about how to set up your tracking for Meta (Facebook & Instagram) and Google Ads.
If the TikTok ban has you thinking about how to set your business up for success without relying on one specific platform to market your business, setting up your website and email list is a surefire way to take back control of how you market your business.
